Gift yourself yoga. It changes lives.

I have written in the past about my  long standing relationship with yoga.

I have also explained (read the linked post above) why I prefer Ashtanga yoga over the other forms of yoga.

A post shared by Preeti Shenoy (@preeti.shenoy) on

In my practice  I do the headstand daily.

The benefits of head stand are immense, ranging from relieving stress, improving focus, improving bloodflow to the eyes, strenghtening shoulders and arms, strengthening core, preventing fluid build up in legs, ankles and feet  to stimulating the lymphatic system.

The one thing I do feel is that there has been so much hype about yoga, which has sadly resulted in it becoming commercialised now. Out of curiosity and because I love yoga, I visited a few yoga centres in my neighbourhood, and I was shocked to discover how poorly qualified the instructors are. Many of them have not got proper certification. Some of them have been practising yoga for just a few months.

If you intend joining a yoga class, I highly recommend you check out the credentials of the teacher. Especially check if they are physically fit and flexible. See how they make you feel. See if they understand your needs.
A good teacher should never make you feel inadequate or intimidated.

I learnt Ashtanga yoga, the traditional way from one of the best gurus and I feel fortunate to have found and learnt from a great teacher. If you are looking for authorised teachers of Ashtanga, click HERE which is the official website. Every teacher listed here will be teaching in the traditional way.

No matter which form of yoga you choose to practise, the key to success is regularity and consistency.
Try yoga. It can change your life.

  2. Hi Preeti,
I waited for your blog post. Then I went to the Central Library I am blessed to have right in front of my house. Spent some time reading, checked out a few books. A memoir "All that you leave behind" by Erin Lee Carr" It's easy informal style is captivating. Read first two chapters in the lounge of the Library itself ;) Got a few Eric Carle's Children's books for my twins. Returned home and to my delight there you were finally with your post on my screen :)
Yoga - such an apt topic for today's fast life where we have forgotten how to live in sync with Nature and our own bodies. Your dedication towards Yoga and maintaining self health (Mind and Body) is exemplary. I got introduced to Yoga much late in my life...during my residential training for State Civil Services. Continued since after that but got derailed a few years ago. Now my life is completely out of control. Thanks to the Hurricane and Tornado in my life ;) But that should not be my excuse. I intend to get back into it. You have impressed me a lot with your 'Headstand'. Another reason to admire you :) All your blog posts are so relevant and meaningful. One takes away a lot from here to enrich his/her life. Thanks for such illuminating articles.

I have talked about it partially in my blog - "Conscious Autophagy of Psyche". Hope you don't mind me mentioning that here. Have embedded the link just in case if you would like to check it out.

    Until tomorrow...Adieu!

    1. Hey Alka!
You know, I've started looking forward to your very articulate and thoughtful comments in my comment box, as much as you've started waiting for my posts. I've always believed (and experience has confirmed this) that one can make deep and meaningful connections through blogging. Of course, it also depends on how genuine you are.
I have gone through a few of your blog posts and left comments too. Thank you for sharing!
I will definitely check out Erin Lee Carl. Thanks for the recommendation. Eric Carle used to be my children's favourite too, when they were tiny. Apart from the 'Very Hungry caterpillar' which is well known, the other one my daughter loved was 'Papa, please get the moon for me.' :)

    2. Wow!!! You made my day Preeti...Zillion thanks for visiting my blog and making your presence felt in my comment box. I feel honored :) Thank you from deep inside my heart for replying religiously to my comments and spending such beautiful words of appreciation for them. I took up Blogging as a stress buster and some constructive activity to keep me sane amidst all the chaos around me. It's like unwinding my mind and meditate by breathing out words whenever I panic not worrying about if someone is interested in what I have to say or am I boring some one with my outburst of views!!! I am just passionate about what I write. I never thought it could give birth to some meaningful connections. It has opened a new window allowing fresh breeze in my "bhagti daudti" life. Hope to stay connected with you and connect with more like minded people through Blogging.
Yes...There are few books that hook me from their first line or first page. This one (Erin Lee Carl's) is one such work. I got both the books of Eric carle that you've mentioned here plus The Mixed-Up Chameleon and The Grouchy Ladybug. Hope to instill the love of reading in my munchkins :)

    1. That's from a digital app. But it requires a small amount of 'art work'. Thank you! You are so generous.

  4. You are correct ma'am most of the mentors today have a limited knowledge of yoga. I have experienced such a thing in the past. Also I must say this post does motivate me to work on myself constructively. Thanks for posting.

  5. Yoga had been a friend of me too for the past 15 years. I am not regular like you, but even if I do it after weeks together, I feel an instant calming effect which stays through the day. Inspired to become more regular after reading your blog ~ Indu.

  7. I too swear by Yoga. I had fibromyalgia, and related problems. All my pain and problems just vanished since I started Yoga . But after a while I stopped it. All the problems just came back with a bang. Thankfully my parents are certified Yoga instructors.
And yes my third kid was born on international yoga day
