Perfect post for a perfect dad.

This photograph was clicked on 15th May 1972. It shows a new father, holding his baby girl. There is unconcealed joy on his face, as he holds her and looks into her eyes.

She will grow up to adore him. She will love him with all her heart. She will strive to be like him. She will call him up nearly every day, even when she is married and has children of her own. She will be his little girl forever.

She will also hold back her tears, pretend to be brave and write a perfect post in her blog when he dies.

The little girl in that photo is me. The photograph was clicked on 15th May 1972. I was not even five months old.It sits on my desk, in front of me, as I write this.

Mr.Fab of Pointless drivel had a surprise for me yesterday. He awarded me the perfect post award for January for my post My special friend. He wrote about it in his blog as well. I am a big fan of his blog and I love his sense of humour.
Click here to see what he said about me.

I was really surprised, honoured and touched. That post was from the heart. The irony, is that my dad would have been so proud, to read whatever I wrote. The heart wrenching fact is that he cannot. I would give anything that I have, to be able to talk to my dad, just one more time.I’m not asking for more—Just once. For even a minute.

But I cannot. So I write about him and hold him close to my heart. And keep looking at the photographs, cherishing the memories.

That is why I like pictures more than I like money.
A Perfect Post – January 2007
A big thank you to all those who left more comments on that post.I shall revert to each of you individually.

  1. when you have memories of a loved one, some days you can pretend they are just a phone call away. Other days you have to face reality.

Pictures help you get thrugh the reality days.

If my home was burning and I had to choose weather to grab the jewls or the crate of albums..

I would take the pictures any day

It's bizzare isn't it. In that one photo there are memories tucked away below other memories, and each time you look at it more memories come flooding out.

And it is just 6" by 4" square of paper with some lines on it.

And it is just the key to our hearts...

  9. Wow. Very powerful, Ps. What smacks me in the forehead is that I still have that minute available. And, as he gets older, I have made stretching efforts to be more blatantly appreciative of my love for the man. We never used to say "the words" before. Now we do. I initiated. Now he initiates. Thanks for helping me appreciate my dad, Auggie.

  11. They say a picture is worth a thousand words..this not true..it is in fact worth an infinite number of words thoughts and emotions..it is a link with the past, a guide to the future and is in fact the perfect time machine.

Your post deserved wholeheartedly the award given. To touch the mind and the heart is always illusive, but you manage to do it with apparent ease! Encore!

  12. I came back to read your post, and the one that got 'the perfect post award' again.

You write beautifully. I wish there was some way to lessen your loss but I'm afraid all I have are words. I am so sorry for your loss - you were so lucky to have such a wonderful father.

  16. I guess you will also therefore understand how I feel towards MY daughter. There is that special bond between a father and a daughter that is unexplainable and is so full of life. Daughters are made to be pampered, cuddled, made much off and what not. They take away all the days tension and make you feel so full of life again in their own way. And that's not to say that I love my son any less. Its just that daughters are special and mine is even more precious.
