Remorse
"There is no person so severely punished, as those who subject themselves to the whip of their own remorse"
~~~Seneca (Roman philosopher, mid-1st century AD)
This is an abstract painting (oil on canvas) ,an original piece of work, that I completed a few weeks back.It is called 'Remorse'. Look carefully--you might just spot a figure ( a profile)lamenting and questioning.
Remorse is a horrible emotion to experience.It is cruel.Terrifyingly cruel.It eats you up. It kills you .Slowly.
This painting expresses what I feel about it.
Is it a face or a whole body? I think I see more than one possibility.
ReplyDeleteI associate remorse with having a lump on your throat. It's suffocating.
didnt get the painting at all.. wasnt able to relate it.. guess im not into art after all! not abstract anyway.. :)
ReplyDeletebut cant agree more with the quote..it just eats up everything!!
That's a beautiful piece. You have quite an eye.
ReplyDeleteWow !
ReplyDeleteDM: Itsnot a whole figure.It is a profile.(a face)The deep blue diamond you see in the centre is the eye.And there is a hand at the extreme left corner.I have also shown the lump in the throat!
ReplyDeleteAnkit:you can still appreciate the colours! :P
Cable girl:Thank u!!!
Dame's diary:Thank U!!
very nice painting I must say! WOW!
ReplyDeleteRemorse...Im being swallowed by it too. wud u believe it PS?
btw
Happy Independence Day!
Keshi.
beautiful painting. I like the question mark at the top.
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence day to you.
Cheers!
Why do people subject themselves to the whip of their own remorse.. is a big question.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful painting. I have been referred to your blog by someone called Sunil Kolliakal, who himself is a stranger to me! Anyway let me have a dekko at more of your blogs!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the quote..I also recall asituation a few years back when I I had a terrible Boss at work..he was incapable of 'people management'..was good with money but little else...anyway..I used up so much energy resenting him, but with little effect other than my own anxiety and the resulting effects....The solution?..I decided to leave!!!Hahah!
ReplyDeleteOK when it comes to painting, let alone abstract, I am a SUCKER. I had been very carefully trying to see where the lady was questioning something. Is it something like the lady in the black shade uses her right hand to sorta unwillingly scratch her right part of the head and there comes the white question mark?
ReplyDeleteOh dear, it better be what I visualized. I have invested lot of time to figure this out :-(
BTW, why is the lady sad with a question? Being remorse is another part but all she wanted to ask was a question perhaps something that never existed maybe. But how to associate that with being remorse.
Guess that is abstract painting. An idiot like me will never understand all this I reckon. :-D
* Remorse is a horrible emotion to experience.It is cruel.Terrifyingly cruel.It eats you up. It kills you .Slowly
ReplyDeletevery true..its one of the most helpless situations..
Nice paintin..Those shades are nice..
ReplyDeleteI am not gud at interpretin the paintin.. So really not getting that remorseful soul :(
Wanted to ask this question to someone.Since u r an artist.. I guess i can ask u r opinion..
Why are modern paintings always complex.. like.. they never emote expressions in an obvious manner.. its always hidden in shades .. curves and lines..
Wudnt it be appreciated more if the expressions are more obvious..
Any reason behind it ?
(I can jus think of one reason.. but wanted u know ur opinion bfr tat..)
Remorse is for sinners...I am perfect...never knew what it means....
ReplyDeletelol....
The face escapes me, much to my annoyance!
ReplyDeleteBut remorse is a monster...
You are multitalented. I added you
Beautiful! I liked the theme. The clever use of colours, prticularly green.
ReplyDeleteThe image bursts several emotions in the concious as you spend time with it. Splendid!
Well ofcourse the colours are great.. but still too abstract!
ReplyDeleteGod, I am one of those who never "read" art! I guess I am "artistically challenged", to be politically correct.
ReplyDeleteHmm..Remorse can also be a good thing right? It helps us become more self aware and change ourselves hopefully into better people! Thoughts?
Vidya
yeah Preets REMORSE is a very strange emotion which makes one go through a whole gamut of thoughts & actions.But then I also feel that if this emotion dint exist then we would be faulted wtih being irresponsible for our actions,deeds ,& words we speak. After all REMORSE does make us question all of the above & hepls us to evolve a more wiser & better person than we were before becoming Remorseful due to any one of the above listed reasons!!.
ReplyDeleteps - i wanted to comment much earlier but couldn't as your page kept freezing. In any case, love it love it. It's tugging at my heart :)
ReplyDeleteRads:Thank U.
ReplyDeleteLife is a gift:True--it makes us wiser till we commit another mistake :-)
Vidya:yep--we can console ourselves so!
Ankit:Thank u!
Kulpreet:Thanks pal.Will drop by soon.Weekend visitors who stayed over.So wasnt online much.But will catch up soon.
Marja:Thank you.
Freelance:Will mail it to u ,outlined (in paint) if u send me ur id.
Wyvern:Ahem! Ahem!
Bharath:I guess thats because artists are complicated beings and this art is what they FEEL--its about THEIR emotions..Thats why it moves me.
ReplyDeleteNiall:so a good thing came out of your remorse after all!
Cool Cancerian:Thnaks so much! Yes I know Sunil Kolliakal.Must thank him too though he never comments! :-)
Keshi:Thanks pal! And thanks for the wishes.
Jewel Ray: Thank u so much.Cheers.
ReplyDeleteJ:I think you answered that question yourself in your latest post.(abt weddings and pain and weekend)
Vik: Definitely not my intent to make anyone feel stupid.Will explain it if we ever meet.(too long to write!)
It reminds me of an ancient death imagery with a spectre. Very nice interplay of colors, the question mark and the face reflecting lament is depicted beautifully.
