Remorse

"There is no person so severely punished, as those who subject themselves to the whip of their own remorse"

~~~Seneca (Roman philosopher, mid-1st century AD)
This is an abstract painting (oil on canvas) ,an original piece of work, that I completed a few weeks back.It is called 'Remorse'. Look carefully--you might just spot a figure ( a profile)lamenting and questioning.
Remorse is a horrible emotion to experience.It is cruel.Terrifyingly cruel.It eats you up. It kills you .Slowly.
This painting expresses what I feel about it.
  1. Is it a face or a whole body? I think I see more than one possibility.
    I associate remorse with having a lump on your throat. It's suffocating.
    Why do people subject themselves to the whip of their own remorse.. is a big question.
  9. I agree with the quote..I also recall asituation a few years back when I I had a terrible Boss at work..he was incapable of 'people management'..was good with money but little else...anyway..I used up so much energy resenting him, but with little effect other than my own anxiety and the resulting effects....The solution?..I decided to leave!!!Hahah!
  10. OK when it comes to painting, let alone abstract, I am a SUCKER. I had been very carefully trying to see where the lady was questioning something. Is it something like the lady in the black shade uses her right hand to sorta unwillingly scratch her right part of the head and there comes the white question mark?
    Oh dear, it better be what I visualized. I have invested lot of time to figure this out :-(
    BTW, why is the lady sad with a question? Being remorse is another part but all she wanted to ask was a question perhaps something that never existed maybe. But how to associate that with being remorse.
    Guess that is abstract painting. An idiot like me will never understand all this I reckon. :-D
  12. Nice paintin..Those shades are nice..
    I am not gud at interpretin the paintin.. So really not getting that remorseful soul :(
    Wanted to ask this question to someone.Since u r an artist.. I guess i can ask u r opinion..
    Why are modern paintings always complex.. like.. they never emote expressions in an obvious manner.. its always hidden in shades .. curves and lines..
    Wudnt it be appreciated more if the expressions are more obvious..
    Any reason behind it ?
    (I can jus think of one reason.. but wanted u know ur opinion bfr tat..)
    Beautiful! I liked the theme. The clever use of colours, prticularly green.
    The image bursts several emotions in the concious as you spend time with it. Splendid!
  17. Well ofcourse the colours are great.. but still too abstract!
  18. God, I am one of those who never "read" art! I guess I am "artistically challenged", to be politically correct.
    Hmm..Remorse can also be a good thing right? It helps us become more self aware and change ourselves hopefully into better people! Thoughts?
  19. yeah Preets REMORSE is a very strange emotion which makes one go through a whole gamut of thoughts & actions.But then I also feel that if this emotion dint exist then we would be faulted wtih being irresponsible for our actions,deeds ,& words we speak. After all REMORSE does make us question all of the above & hepls us to evolve a more wiser & better person than we were before becoming Remorseful due to any one of the above listed reasons!!.
  24. It reminds me of an ancient death imagery with a spectre. Very nice interplay of colors, the question mark and the face reflecting lament is depicted beautifully.
