Remorse

"There is no person so severely punished, as those who subject themselves to the whip of their own remorse"

~~~Seneca (Roman philosopher, mid-1st century AD)
This is an abstract painting (oil on canvas) ,an original piece of work, that I completed a few weeks back.It is called 'Remorse'. Look carefully--you might just spot a figure ( a profile)lamenting and questioning.
Remorse is a horrible emotion to experience.It is cruel.Terrifyingly cruel.It eats you up. It kills you .Slowly.
This painting expresses what I feel about it.
  1. Is it a face or a whole body? I think I see more than one possibility.
    I associate remorse with having a lump on your throat. It's suffocating.
  2. didnt get the painting at all.. wasnt able to relate it.. guess im not into art after all! not abstract anyway.. :)
    but cant agree more with the quote..it just eats up everything!!
  4. DM: Itsnot a whole figure.It is a profile.(a face)The deep blue diamond you see in the centre is the eye.And there is a hand at the extreme left corner.I have also shown the lump in the throat!
    Ankit:you can still appreciate the colours! :P
    Cable girl:Thank u!!!
  7. Why do people subject themselves to the whip of their own remorse.. is a big question.
  8. That is a beautiful painting. I have been referred to your blog by someone called Sunil Kolliakal, who himself is a stranger to me! Anyway let me have a dekko at more of your blogs!
  9. I agree with the quote..I also recall asituation a few years back when I I had a terrible Boss at work..he was incapable of 'people management'..was good with money but little else...anyway..I used up so much energy resenting him, but with little effect other than my own anxiety and the resulting effects....The solution?..I decided to leave!!!Hahah!
  10. OK when it comes to painting, let alone abstract, I am a SUCKER. I had been very carefully trying to see where the lady was questioning something. Is it something like the lady in the black shade uses her right hand to sorta unwillingly scratch her right part of the head and there comes the white question mark?
    Oh dear, it better be what I visualized. I have invested lot of time to figure this out :-(
    BTW, why is the lady sad with a question? Being remorse is another part but all she wanted to ask was a question perhaps something that never existed maybe. But how to associate that with being remorse.
    Guess that is abstract painting. An idiot like me will never understand all this I reckon. :-D
    very true..its one of the most helpless situations..
  12. Nice paintin..Those shades are nice..
    I am not gud at interpretin the paintin.. So really not getting that remorseful soul :(
    Wanted to ask this question to someone.Since u r an artist.. I guess i can ask u r opinion..
    Why are modern paintings always complex.. like.. they never emote expressions in an obvious manner.. its always hidden in shades .. curves and lines..
    Wudnt it be appreciated more if the expressions are more obvious..
    Any reason behind it ?
    (I can jus think of one reason.. but wanted u know ur opinion bfr tat..)
  13. Remorse is for sinners...I am perfect...never knew what it means....
    lol....
  14. The face escapes me, much to my annoyance!
    But remorse is a monster...
  16. Beautiful! I liked the theme. The clever use of colours, prticularly green.
    The image bursts several emotions in the concious as you spend time with it. Splendid!
  17. Well ofcourse the colours are great.. but still too abstract!
  18. God, I am one of those who never "read" art! I guess I am "artistically challenged", to be politically correct.
    Hmm..Remorse can also be a good thing right? It helps us become more self aware and change ourselves hopefully into better people! Thoughts?
  19. yeah Preets REMORSE is a very strange emotion which makes one go through a whole gamut of thoughts & actions.But then I also feel that if this emotion dint exist then we would be faulted wtih being irresponsible for our actions,deeds ,& words we speak. After all REMORSE does make us question all of the above & hepls us to evolve a more wiser & better person than we were before becoming Remorseful due to any one of the above listed reasons!!.
  22. Bharath:I guess thats because artists are complicated beings and this art is what they FEEL--its about THEIR emotions..Thats why it moves me.
    Niall:so a good thing came out of your remorse after all!
  24. It reminds me of an ancient death imagery with a spectre. Very nice interplay of colors, the question mark and the face reflecting lament is depicted beautifully.
A hundred little flames--new novel from Preeti Shenoy.
Greetings from Birmingham. I type this with a stunning view of the boating canals in Birmingham.
 We had the cover launch of my new novel yesterday at Birmingham, as a part of the Birmingham Literature Festival.
The event was in association with DesiBlitz, which is an award winning web magazine, in UK  for British Asians.
They had carried alovely interview with me some days back. DO READ it.
The entire event of yesterday, was telecast live on Facebook. I have read from my new novel! :)
 I have also read from It's All In the Planets. If you watch the whole telecast, you will see how different the writing approach and the writing styles are in the two books.
I am grateful that the event was a roaring success and that people turned up in  large numbers.
Meanwhile at @LibraryofBham@preetishenoy signs many, many books after her event. #BLF17pic.twitter.com/Aw3ISbHA14 — Birmingham Lit Fest (@BhamLitFest) October 7, 2017
If you have missed the live telecast you can watch it on my author…
Are you guilty of this? #AHundredLittleFlames (post 4)
Hi there,
Hope you had a great Diwali!
For those who joined me late, I am doing a  hundred little blog posts to celebrate  my new book A Hundred Little Flames.
This means a new little blog post every day, till I reach a 100 :)
Today is day 4.
Sometimes, couples in love forget about everyone around them. They don't care what others think or feel, as they are so engrossed in each other, and their happiness. They also think that theirs is the greatest and the best love-story. They may not mean to do it. But they do so inadvertently.
Ayan finds it annoying.
Do you know any such couples? Has anyone you know acted that way?
Tell me in comments!
A new post tomorrow.
Love
Preeti
