last post of blog marathon 2013! (post 30)

So finally--here is the day! I touch the finish line today :)

I started this 30 days back--and there has been a post every single day. Hooray :)

For today's post I thought I would write about 'labels' that define us--labels we use--labels others use.

In the corporate culture, we find that people are defined by their designations..VP..CEO, Director. In the armed forces, we have ranks-- Lt.colonel, Major etc.

If you aren't in the corporate world, you would probably define yourself by what you do..Graphic designer, Wedding photographer, Librarian etc.

How important are these labels to you?   Is your identity defined by these labels? How do you define yourself? Does others perception of you, change who you really are? If not, why does it affect you? What if someone gave you a label, which you are not happy about? Would you correct them? Would you speak up and say 'hey..This is not how I would like to be known as.. I would like to be known as __________'

I leave you to think.

And do share with me the answers to  the above, if you  feel like it.
I am listening :)

  4. congrats on finishing your 30 posts Preeti :).. About titles in my life I have seen couple of people who do not care what their title is... and i mean really high ranking titles.. they are so humble and when someone even speaks about their titles they just brush it away..

  5. YAYYYY! congratulations for yet another successful marathon....so proud of you!

Don't like labeling....would stand up for myself if someone did label me and addressed me with it. In the corporate world, I've found that the higher the person's rank, the more humble he/she is, and the less they care about labels. I'm fortunate to work in a group where almost all of them fall in the above category....

The one label I love is "mummaaaaaaaaaa" from my kids :D

  6. Well done. Its a huge effort to write a bog marathon - as much of a challenge as the originl marathon is. Take a bow.

Oh yes - one of the most uncomfortable of questions is - Who are you. My answer to that is , I am I !!

Now I know, I am gonna miss it. Will wait for your next post, which I am sure will come after a much deserved break.:-)

Regarding label, not so sure. People at times tell me, if I am angry,my tone gets very rude. I feel I do it for the fear of not getting hurt more!

    Lots of love,
    Nitu

  11. Congrats on reaching the finish line. It is indeed a huge effort to write such wonderful post after post for 30 days consecutively.
Inspired by you I started one too but forgot about my planned vacation and so had to abandon after day 18th.

You truly are an inspiration. I have read all your posts, not commented on all of them but made sure to read everything.

Reg labels I really don't care what label people give me, I know what I am :)

  12. Congrats Preeti on a succesful blog marathon.
Labels are important as far as I believe.
It defines you, what you have achieved in life.

When someone say I am a housewife as I am on a sabbatical from work, I feel irritated and correct him/her. I am a civil Engineer after all.

  14. Congratulations Ma'am !Keep going!Every post of yours inclines our thoughts towards a positive angle .Well as far as designation is concerned I do not take this seriously at all .Corporate world might be divided that way but I feel the King in me stays awake so long as I keep writing ,reading and associating with the people from different walks of life.

  15. dearest preeti...heartiest congrats on your fantastic marathon....I know its sooo hard to write down an original piece every single day for 30 days consecutively. As for titles, I am a doctor. So a lot of times I am referred to as dr. But honestly, I love it more when I am perceived as a good creative hard working person and not just a professional title:-)) I have a request to make. I have read your previous posts where you said its very important in life to let go. I have been going through a tough time in the past few months. I really want you to write on how exactly should one let go?? What should one do to let go off things which bring in frustration and sorrow?? I would be deeply thankful if you write something on it.

So, I read every single post of yours 30-day blog marathon and did not get a chance to comment on most of them as much as I've liked it.
Well, regarding labels - it depends on individuals and their vulnerability. Some people take it seriously and some really don't care. I personally detest any sarcastic labels that puts people's self-esteem down. And it usually happens in High School or teenage days and some times it damages faith/belief and the feeling stays with them for ever in their life.

  22. Preeti, congratulations on finishing the marathon. Hats off to you, for coming up with something new and creative every single day over last one month.
Well, on labels, I would really like to be known as a good human being, cliched but the top of the mind recall for me.

  23. hey Pretti... congrats for finishing this marathon blog :) & well about labels i guess
we all learn & kind of grow with it... since childhood
In the society we live in.. where people judge you & define you & even restrict you..at times Labels become a part of everyone's life but its upon you to take or not to take it your heart which at times is difficult but its a learning process .. you learn to live with it but for me personally i don't like labelling anyone :)

  24. Hi Preeti nice to read this one...congratulations on achieving the target!

As far as i am concerned i am not at all bothered about labelling..those who know me closely and who are my well wishers know who i am and rest of the world i don't care (sounds a bit arrogant)as they have all the right to think what they want to !!!
