Smile --Tomorrow may be worse!

Kids really say the darndest things. It is amazing at times, how much insight they have. And how piercingly true their words are.

Yesterday, I was feeling a bit down, as I was thinking about Satish leaving for Srilanka, early Sunday morning.

The prospect of being alone with the kids, without him, was making me feel so low that I wanted an extension ladder to get out of it. It came in the form of my 6 year old daughter.

“Mommy—Are you upset because your dad died and you are missing him?” (The usual reason whenever they see me on the verge of tears)

“No, baby. Today I am upset because your papa is leaving early tomorrow moning and I’m going to miss him really bad”

She perked up instantly and said in a bright voice “Oh! Is that all? He is not yet dead. He will come back soon! Smile Mommy. You look better when you smile”

I did not smile.
I burst out laughing.

    Hi ps,

I am sure you will come out well soon. And as the child says dad will be back very soon indeed.

Child is the father of man: in so many ways they keep proving this to us. My daughters do the same all the time.

Have a great sunday with kids!

Hey P....Kids do say the darnest things... They are our connection to reality most times. They also show us to look at the brighter side of things...

  9. Things really are far more simple to a child and sometimes it is nice to have the fog lifted and be reminded of that clarity.

I am sure you will miss him, but your daughter is right, he will return soon :)

  10. bob-kat:Yes, I know.its just that sometimes you get so buried in your own self pity that it becomes difficult to see the 'big picture'.Of course he will be back soon, like my daughter said--But the way she said "he is not dead yet" really made me laugh.

  12. With kids, i guess its always like that. Either black or white;no grey. There is no treading the middle path! And that's one of the reasons which make them so special! :-)

A man has only 2 balls and they take up all his thoughts.

  17. Sometimes I wish we don't have to teach our kids about tact too much -- because they lose their spontaneity in spoken words as well as their penchant for the brutal truth

  18. Vidya:Yes I have seen the show.Thats why I used that line :-)
Good to know you are saggi..They are the best! Do u have an orkut profile? If so pls add me!!(My email id is in this blogger profile)

    Niall: :-)

Gils: i sure hope so! Will drop by soon!

Princess:Kids groe up and learn tact--even if we dont teach it consciuosly. But you are right--you hear brutal truth only from kids.

  19. I can totally relate to this and your earlier post 'missing you'. My husband is in the USAF and is gone often. Usually it's just for a month or so, but we've done some longer ones. When he went to South Korea we didn't see each other for 13 months. Our phone bills were unbelievable. This was before we could afford a computer. Now we do the web cam thing, lots of email, and have learned all sorts of ways to cope. It's still hard, though.
Unfortunately for me, Vodka is totally not an option. Too many meds.
