The something in his eyes

There is something in his eyes
That speaks to my soul
They sing
And I listen.

There is something in his eyes
A plea for acceptance
They beg
And I yield.

There is something in his eyes
That wrenches my gut
They want understanding
And I try to.

We exchange words
Pleasantries and part
Our paths to never cross again
We inhabit two different worlds.
He is oblivious to me now
I was but an aberration
To his well -structured life
He has a living to make
And cannot afford the luxury of poetry.

And so while he busies himself making a living,
The something in his eyes
Continues to haunt me
Especially at nights
When sleep is elusive.
And I seek frantically
The understanding, the acceptance
But most of all -- the unsung song.

  13. A nice poem, but Ieel the poem could be written in a more specific manner with certain details of what happens when their path cross, or for that matter what was the path like, or the weather like when their path crossed, you know minute detail like that, rather than in a general sense. It is just a positive criticism and I hope if you incorporate some of these things it would make your poem even more interesting. Keep writing always!

    1. Well--a criticism on prose I can completely accept. Criticizing a poem is exactly like criticizing a work of art! It is like saying about a painting, the green in the tree should have been darker. Or the plant should have had one more flower. Then the painting would have been 'better'.
I completely accept that, that is the way YOU see it--you are of course entitled to your opinion and I do thank you for leaving a comment :)
The way i see it-- a poem (or a painting) is a powerful expression of feelings. An outpouring really. And what it evokes in the reader or viewer is upto them.

    2. Eventhough a poem is an expression of emotions but just like any other art form there is always a scope for improvement. Probably a darker shade of green might infact take the painting to another level, one never knows. There is this really beautiful poem called the red wheelbarrow, it goes like this

      so much depends
      upon

      a red wheel
      barrow

      glazed with rain
      water

      beside the white
      chickens.

It's written by william carlos williams and is a very simple poem but the visual imagery in the poem is very very powerful and specific.

You are the poet and if you are satisfied with the end result then there is nothing more precious. Again it is just my point of view and I am sorry if I have offended you, but that was not the intention. I just wrote what I felt after reading the poem.

    3. You haven't offended me at all. I do appreciate your views.
I did not much like William Carlos's poem that you have quoted here and I did not find it either powerful or a great example of visual imagery!

I love many many other poets--find their work awe-inspiring.

So you see--the point I am trying to make it that it is very individualistic.
And this 'another level' is entirely viewer defined when it comes to any art form.

I am merely trying to say 'Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder'.
I do appreciate your views. And thank you for sharing.
