A very special day

Some people have great difficulties saying "I love you" to the ones they really do. They want to. They would very much like to. But somehow the words get stuck in the throat or at a level deeper down and the best they can come up with is 'Take care' or 'See you soon' or something equivalent.

Me, I am quite shameless  expressive that way. If I feel it, I say it. I throw in a hug and maybe a  kiss too :-) Those that I love know I do :-)

Satish is quite shy when it comes to saying the words. When we first met 15 years ago, one of the first things he gave me was this tiny little clip-on bear whose hands (they were clips actually) would grasp the object they would cling to. To this day, I remember his exact words. He said  " I am a very shy guy. So this guy says 'I love you' " and he gave me that little bear (it fits in the palm of my hand) which I truly treasure to this day. (Yeah, I am so sentimental that way. Any expression of love and I am floored). This was before our marriage  at Mumbai airport, when I had gone to receive him. I am sure he was stunned when I grabbed him and kissed him right there in full public view. :-) I adored him all the more for it, while he squirmed, half in shock, half in embarrassment but a huge wide grin spreading across his face all the same.

Over the years, nothing has changed. (Thankfully) Except that I have raised my two children to say 'I love you' and to hug and kiss too. I get my large share of it daily. (Oh, how I love it and now  satish does too). Of course my children (just like me)  are very very selective to whom they say it.

We exchanged a lot of hugs and kisses and 'i love you' s today. Today is a special day after all. It is his birthday. :-)

This song I dedicate to you, Satish..(yeah, I am corny/silly/filmy  that way and very happily so :-) )

And as for the words on the collage, you know how much I mean them too.
Happy Birthday Satish! You are loved a LOT.

  1. Very Happy birthday To Satish !

I loved it to read this lovely post.

  2. And i love it when i am the first one to read and comment on your posts :)

  3. Could not be the first one to comment on this but what the heck. Am completely floored with this post and the song - one of my favourites too. Thanks so very much Preeti. Yes, I do not say it much as you have mentioned in the post but you know for me the world and universe revolves around the 3 of you. I do adore you three and life would not have been as good as it has been but for the 3 of you - I also feel you 3 are the biggest assets I have after all these years.

Anyway just to prove I have changed over the years here I am saying Thanks you and that I love you too very much (the hug will be delivered in person and not via the net).

Thanks for being my friend and guiding me through thick and thin.

I come from a very huggy-squeezy family and I cant help running and hugging ppl I love, esp after meeting them after a long time. Very sweet post Preeti :)

  12. happy bday to Satish...:)

  13. Thank you all for the wishes. Much appreciated. Had a fantastic day today with the 3 most important people to me. Could not be better.

@Nischii - Difficult to change now to be honest. Will keep nagging Preeti even when I am 100. She is terrified of that prospect I must say. Imagine a 100 year old man chasing her even then. I just laugh.
@tarabhatt - completely agree. Keep telling her that when we reach 100 we will switch off the light together after a long and fruitful life together. Not one minute before and not one minute after.

  14. Many Many Happy Returns Of The Day Satish :-)

  15. Wow! I have that clip-on teddy bear too. It is actually my sister's teddy but I have preserved it for her :). It was a rage after that song Chui Mui si tum lag ti ho...

Life is so unpredictable. Stop judging! #Sridevi

This morning I woke up to the news of the legendary Sridevi, being no more at 54. I have grown up watching her movies. She is a tremendously talented actor.

I have been reading so many write-ups about her. There are whatsapp forwards, blog posts, news reports, status updates and so much more.

What I do not understand is how people comment on her personal life. They have watched her movies, or met her at an event, or know her through 'friends of friends' etc. They talk about how she 'tried to hold on to her beauty', how she went under the scalpel, how she was stressed etc etc.
Everything about her is open game --no matter what the truth is.

I am saddened reading these discussions.

I lost my father to a cardiac arrest. He was healthy,  fit as a fiddle, had none of the age related ailments and looked so much younger for his years. He had twice the energy of someone half his age. Even on the day he passed away, he had gone for his usual 6 km walk. He was just 66.  It was…

Re-store : A delightful little shop in Whitefield, Bangalore.

All of us are guilty, at least to some extent  of hoarding stuff. We hold on to old things--be it clothes, books, utensils, footwear, knick-knacks or some such, that form the minutiae of our daily lives. Many a time these add to the the clutter too. Rare is the home which looks like the above pic.

I am a huge fan of Marie Kondo, and I highly recommend her book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up  which is more than just a book.

It is an entire philosophy, and a new approach. I read the book back to back, and immediately put into use the methods described in the book. I must tell you how wonderful I felt! I never thought that I could be that organised.

Clearing clutter, and the stuff that you no longer have use for, does release 'blocked energy.' There is no scientific or rational explanation for this. I only know that it works for me. Any Feng Shui practitioner and  loads of Eastern Schools of belief will confirm this.

I always make it a point to give away things I no longe…

Be that man Who looks his woman in the eye when he gets home And says ‘You look beautiful, darling.’ And means it. Because this thing you have going is Sacred
Be that man Who offers his woman a back rub, a glass of wine Or coffee Or simply some time and space Where she can be herself. Because this thing you have going is Sacred

Be that man Who doesn’t make jokes about his woman, behind her back Because she is too precious, too dear Some things you do not joke about Because this thing you have going is Sacred.
Be that man Who would drop everything in a jiffy to be beside her Not because she cannot manage But because you know how much she hates to do it all by herself Tell her she is strong and brave, And hold her hand Because this thing you have going is Sacred ______________________ **************© 2018 Preeti ShenoyFor more poems click here.
