Good night folks. See  you tomorrow!
Don't forget to share your thoughts with me, in my comment box. What do you think of this undue pressure that we put on kids? Is it worth it? Does your academic performance truly determine what you do in life or how well you do?

  2. I always wonder why the pressure to be top rankers. Getting top ranks has never been a formula for a happy life. There are many who regret missing out on other fun while they were buried in books and there are those who completely ignored academics when young and are later forced to settle in mediocre jobs because of no better opportunities.

I feel a lot of kids need some extra push from parents to get over laziness and spend the time in some useful way. But the pressure to be top rankers is pointless. A well rounded personality and attitude are the key elements to grow up into a happy person.

  4. Right from the very young years, children must be trained to balance studies/work and play. Everyday, from the time they return home from school until they go to bed, their time must be allotted for relaxation, play, studies, reading book and dinner with family. So, Once we inculcate this habit, every aspect of their life becomes balanced and work/studies is not accumulated at the time of exams. No stress during exams if they consistently work little by little on a daily basis.

Also, children must not be made into some kind of a memorizing machine. They must learn and gain knowledge rather than studying only for top grades.

I might be wrong. This is just my opinion.

    1. Very interesting points you make. No--you are never 'wrong'!! It's your opinion!
Some children suffer from anxiety syndrome, no matter how well prepared they are.

  7. Balance is key. Children should develop interests and hobbies outside of academics. Running behind ranks is not the ideal way to be but then again slacking in studies is not acceptable either. And this is where parents come into the picture. They need to have a balanced approach too so that they dont push their kids over the edge. Easier said than done. Parents want the best for their kids but unfortunately carry a lot of baggage that is their own experience of life and its no wonder that it spills out onto their kids. Its an imperfect world and we're all learning as we go along.

  9. Thanks for this post, Preeti. I have never understood why there is so much of competition between children when it comes to their studies. It's like the only thing they have in their life and even some parents put so much pressure on them, that the child forgets what is their childhood and concentrates on books, books and more books. It's always about coming in 1st place and 2nd place is also not good enough sometimes. What parents do not realize is that their child would have slogged and studied till they felt that their eyes might pop out. Instead of applying so much of pressure on kids, the parents should encourage them to do their best, sit with them while they study and help them in a calm and mature manner. The children should feel as if their parents are genuinely interested in helping them for their future and not in a competitive way. Thank you.
