5 hidden ways in which blogging will help you grow and why you should start one.

So why should you start a blog? Is it going to help you in anyway?
Yes! It will. Here is why:

1.     A platform to express yourself:  Blogging is making a statement. It is telling the world, who you are as a person. Sure, your facebook updates can do that—but often they are about trivial things. Plus they get buried in a deluge of status updates. A blog is a solid body, your very own publishing space, a space where you can be whatever you want to be. How cool is that?!

2.     You make connections with real people : I have met some amazing people from different countries because of my blog. Gillian from Canada who runs a spa,  Jacob Accurso  from Oregon who is a private investigator, a potter and an airplane owner(!), Guto from Sao Paulo, Niall Young from UK whose paintings are all over my house. None of these would have been possible without my blog.

3.     It helps you reflect and think about things: When you write in a blog, you  are thinking and reflecting about what you want to say.  A blog helps you think clearly, examine if your words reflect your thoughts and it helps you grow as a person.

4.     It makes you feel good: Mine does! I feel so good when I blog. Try it—the high you get from your first comment will be something that you will remember forever.

5.     You never know how it can change your life: As you can see, it has completely changed mine. 10 years of blogging. 8 best-sellers.  More than 500 published pieces in various publications like Readers Digest, Times of India and more.  And to think that it started with a single anonymous blogpost!

There are tonnes of articles online on how to start a blog and so I will not elaborate on that. But I would like to say that what is necessary for a successful blog is 3  C’s
Consistency
Connect
Correct grammar!
Pick something you feel passionately about and start writing. It is important to establish a connect and that will come only when you are authentic and genuine. Just be yourself and go!

If you are motivated enough to start a blog, after reading this post I will help you further.  Leave me a link to your blog, once you have ten posts. I will personally visit your blog, and leave a comment(only if you have ten posts and your writing has to follow the rules of grammar please). And not only that I will pick three blogs and I will write a guest post for them! How much more can I give eh? :)

Now go do it!

  43. Hello Preeti mam.
There couldn't have been a better way than this to fill oneself with zeal and give a kickstart to one's blog.
Though I have started blogging three months back, but I still feel I am naive.
Among all your Cs, I feel second and third are the most important, though not trying to downscale the importance of first one.
When I write any of my blogpost, I create numerous drafts of it.
I take my each and every post very seriously, and have a schedule of posting every fourth day (given my full time job demands almost full time from me).
I wonder how many drafts will I create for some bigger project of mine. But yes all i want to say is, please give my writings a chance. Just a look. I'm pretty sure I won't disappoint you.

This is the link to my blog, which is really very special to me,

I hope you will like it.
    Good day!

  65. Hi Preeti Ma'm,

Wow! You really know how to motivate a person. I knew writing would be cathartic for me after a recent upheaval I went through. I've been procrastinating, needing to write, getting out all my thoughts and emotions but , afraid to at the same time.
Your post gave me the much needed inspiration and I started blogging. I only got in two posts, so I don't know if I qualify for a visit, or if I even made the deadline. If you do read my posts, I would be thrilled. If not, I cannot express how grateful I am for your timely encouragement. Thank you.

A Hundred Little Flames. How I signed 3000 copies!

In the past, I have blogged about how I signed 3000 copies of my previous novels, The Secret Wishlist, The One You Cannot Haveand also It's All In the Planets.
(Click on each one to read about the signing of those books)

I have also written aboutwhy I sign my books 'With Love, Preeti Shenoy'. (Do read the post)

It is that time of the year again, when I sign my pre-orders. I have just got back from Manipal, utterly exhausted with knotted shoulder muscles, numb finger tips and a feeling of wanting to sleep for a hundred years. I am bone-dead tired.

I left for Manipal, on 25th which has one of India's finest and most advanced Printing press. To reach Manipal, you have to travel to Mangalore, and then go by road, a journey about an hour and a half. My flight was late, and by the time I reached Manipal it was about 7.30 pm. I checked into the hotel, and knew I had two long days ahead of me.

The next morning, we reached the press at 9.00 am.

This picture was clicked just be…

A Hundred Little Flames - Chapter 1

There were two completely unrelated incidents that happened on Sunday, which would change Ayan’s life forever.

1. He attended an office party thrown by his boss in a swanky uptown pub in Pune.
2.More than a thousand miles away, in a small village in Kerala, not identifiable by Google Maps, his grandfather had a fall.

On Monday morning, unaware of anything but the clock on his computer ticking, Ayan took a sip of the horrendous office tea with over-boiled tea leaves, too much milk and sugar. He had only forty-five minutes left before the meeting was to begin. Beads of perspiration trickled down his forehead into his eye, and he blinked. His brow furrowed, he sat hunched, with an ache in his neck, his fingers flying across the keyboard. He felt as though somebody was raining blows inside his head. His throat was parched despite the tea, and now his stomach began to feel queasy as well.
He regretted having that fourth tequila last night. But Randhir had insisted. You can hardly…

What fun stuff do you do with your friends? (post 6)

All good friends have a favourite thing they do. It's their thing.

Ayan and his friend quote random movie dialogues to each other. One who fails to guess the name of the movie gets beer for the other.

What fun stuff do YOU do with your close friends? Tell me in comments, I would love to know.

And I'l be back ;-)
(which movie?) :)
Guess the name of the movie correctly and I will pick one person and send them a handmade card. :)
