On keeping in touch in friendships (blog marathon post 6)

A little while ago I came across the above visual and it struck a chord instantly. If somebody really wants to be in touch, they will find a way. And if somebody has not kept in touch, it is because right now you aren't a priority for them. They might be bogged down by their own issues.  And that may not mean that they now do not love you as much as they did earlier.

How then do you treat people who don't keep in touch? Do you make a one- sided effort from your end? Are you always the one who calls/messages with barely any responses from the other end?

When it comes to close friendships, some people feel a need to connect on a daily basis. Few others think once in every ten days or so is enough. Yet others connect only when they have something important to share. None of these are the 'right ways'. What matters is whether or not you are  content with it.

When it comes to people who don't keep in touch, I usually make an effort to ask if they are okay once in a few days--but this is only when i genuinely like them. Even then I would probably do it once or twice. If the response from other end never comes as 'they are too busy' I usually move on.

Life is too short to rush through it with a 'i-am-so-busy' syndrome.

Sometimes we just need to slow down and savour the moments.
Time waits for nobody.

  1. Very true, Preeti. We also need to stop making excuses for other people's behaviors. Like these - 'they-must-be-too-busy' or 'they-might-have-meant-to-call-but-did-not-have-time. If we are important to them, they will find a way to be in touch, else they will find an excuse. Either way we need not find excuses for them. Life is too short to spend on people who can't make time for us.

  2. Nice one Preeti..!!! :)
But the thing is, do people understand that if someone is not responding, as you correctly mentioned that they might be bogged down by their own issues and that may not mean that they now do not love. What I feel is if someone is not responding and is so close to you, you need to ask once or twice and leave them on their own for sometime. If you really mean something to them, they are surely going to share with you the reasons. However that friendship, that love will still remain AS-IS..!!! On moving on thing, I can remember one of the best dialogues from - Dil Dhadkane Do, "Dil se faisla karo tumhein kya karna hai. Dimag tarkeeb apne aap nikal lega"..!!!
Keep Writing, Keep Inspiring..!!! Waiting for next..!!! :)

  4. Ma'am please write a post on "how to expand our social circle?" I've always been kinda asocial and now when I see people around having fun, even I feel like having fun. But how? The thing is I'm very bad at making friends. please do a blog post on this. There'll be a lot of people like me out there. It'll be useful.

I agree to that Preeti and we need to make a small, sincere and genuine effort to touch ground. Or else, if someone doesn't reply despite me keep in touch, I'll get the message and move on. No questions asked!

I have read it somewhere that a person comes to your life for the time he/she has to serve some purpose, once that purpose gets over, the person extincts. May be it has some connection to your post here.

  12. Friendship, like love, is complicated in all sorts of ways. We become friends with people through various means, but there comes a day, when the friend realizes that they don't want to keep in touch with you anymore. They don't tell you, but you come to know through their actions and mannerisms. At this point, we become clueless as to why it's happening. The best thing to do is back away slowly and after a few days/weeks, try to contact them again. If they are behaving the same way, then surely it means that they don't want to be in touch. Don't blame yourself. Things happen in life for a reason, whether we like it or not.

Sometimes it is hard to move on, but we have to and perhaps we may realize later on a mistake which we may have made. Friendship, like life, is beautiful and let us keep the friendships going forever!
