Cell phone question

Cell phones or mobile phones have become such an integrated part of our lives that for many of us, life without it is unimaginable.

With the rising number of mobile phone users, and out of rising dependency on the same, a whole lot of new issues have cropped up like ‘Cell phone etiquette’.

There are many who think it is okay to continue texting, while having a conversation with you. They nod to whatever you are saying, their thumbs busy sending that text, (or SMS as it is popularly called) their eyes glued to their phones.

Many of us are so dependent on this little instrument that we have relationships with it! It is almost like an extension of your body part.

How do you look at your cell phone? Would you get irritated if your spouse or partner (or whoever you are living with—your room mate/parent) answered your phone when you weren’t around? (assuming here that you do not carry your cell phone to the shower!) Or would you be happy that they answered your call?

I would love to know what you think. Please vote—and it would be interesting to see which category you fall in.(and also feel free to say what you think in my comment box, after voting!)

  1. Isn't there a "maybe" option?? cos I only answer calls on my husband's phone if I know who's calling and not otherwise.

  2. I dont really like keeping a cell phone, but can't do without one for obvious reasons. :) You write really good and you've got me hooked up to this blog now. The poem "miss you" is amazing...Tonight is dedicated to your archives Ps, and I'm glad I found it. :)

  3. I do not like cell phones personally..I can appreciate the convenience obviously..but I will not be on the end of someone elses 'string'..ready to jump to attention at a moments notice.Saying that, both my boys have mobiles as does my wife and even I have one that I only use when I'm out in the car or at an exhibition. My biggest gripe is with those whose conversations I am forced to endure whilst on a bus or train...aaarrrggghhh!

  5. Mobiles... well, i've lived for 1 year keeping my mobile conv. to the bare minimum and must've had not more than 20 texts in that duration. It is possible not to get addicted.

As for the poll, well I guess it's only fair to answer a call in case the person concerned is not around or the next alternative would be to silence the mobile so it doesn't get too annoying.

  7. Cell phones has made us lazy, we are no longer punctual, people never turn up on the appointed hour, instead give a call or text and conveniently postpone the meeting. That irritates me the most. As for answering someone else's call, i take the call if i know the number or know the person, however, i never read their text messages :)

  9. Hey, I'd give two answers to it, depending on the viewpoint:

"Will you answer your spouse's cell-phone if he/she isn't around when it rings?" -> NO

"Do you think it is okay for your spouse or partner to answer your cell phone, when you are not around?" -> YES

  10. Well, i wouldn't answer the call at the first place. However, if the person tries again, maybe after two or three times,i might pick it up !

  12. hahaha..yeah my mates has an immediate term the minute anyone starts 'sms'ing too much inbetween conversations. We would go "U Anti-Social!" And laugh out loud.hahaha.

I don't think i would mind if my spouse attends to my calls when i am not around. Esp when the phone is ringing too much. It could be an emergency. Otherwise, i would prefer he leave it to me to attend to it if its just one missed call that sound.:)

As for me, IF my spouse is ok with it. I guess i am cool with picking up his calls for him. Otherwise, i would prefer not to. :)

    Have a good weekend!:D

    Cheers!

  14. I would not answer nobody's phone call. I think that is a major intruder to the privacy coz the call could be from anyone. I hate to say, I would be mighty miffed if any one checks my SMS'es as well.

Good tha you brought this point, talk about cell phone decency and etiquettes, I had a blog written for that but heck who cares cell phones these days are like as* holes to a human being. You really don't care what happens there .. LOL

  15. I'll only answer his cell if he asks me to, otherwise I see it as an invasion of his privacy. My cell phone is often handed over to my youngest daughter who is 13 now and gaining a little independence. This way I know she can contact me if she needs me or she can call for help. If I leave my girls at home I have my cell phone with me so I can be reached at any time. But otherwise I have no interest or attachment to my cellphone and if I lost it, it would be easily replaced.
